Tapco HomeDry are also based in Surrey, in Esher and Thames Ditton, so we know Woking well, in fact we have recently converted a damp dark basement into a lovely new room, for one of our clients. Our client quite rightly took the decision of utilising a very good area below her feet and converting it into a lovely playroom room for her children. Following a thorough survey by our qualified damp and timber surveyor a proposal was submitted on how to make full use of the space and how best to damp proof it and keep it dry for many years to come. For this particular contract we decided that the best method was to install a Cavity Drain Membrane system (CDM). This is a high density, polyethylene, studded membrane. These are installed to the walls, using waterproof fixing plugs, while the larger studded floor membrane is lose laid. They are designed, not to block the incoming moisture, but to allow it in so we can control it and discharge it to where we want it to go. Within this system we installed a sump container and pump, with discrete pluming to discharge any excess water to where we want it to do, away from the property. We then installed galvanised framing to which we fixed plasterboard and plastered, ready for decorating. The floor membrane was covered by a floating, treated, tongue and groove chipboard floor. On completion of fitting new skirting and joinery timber, the room was ready for our client to decorate and enjoy.
