Tapco HomeDry recently carried out a Basement Conversion contract in the lovely village of Mortlake, South West London, using a Delta Membrane System. We have been established and trading continuously in London and the Home Counties since 1971 and are Delta Membrane approved contractors. We are also members of the Basement Waterproofing Association (BWA) and a Which? Trusted Trader, so our client immediately felt safe when she made her decision to instruct us.
The property had an existing damp, dark room below the front half of the living room and hall, which was unusable, even for storage. On the clients instruction, our Property Care Association (PCA) qualified damp and timber surveyor, carried our a thorough inspection, discussing each aspects of his findings and listening to her requests on what she would like. It was immediately noted that, although you could stand up in the room, there was inadequate head height and the floor would have to be lowered to gain some more. Two areas of the floor were excavated against the external walls in order to inspect the foundations of the property, which fortunately were sufficient and low enough to enable us to gain approximately 30cm of head height, once the new concrete floor had been laid. It was decided on where the new staircase was to be installed and what electrical wiring was needed for lighting and services.
The first job for our operatives was to excavate the existing concrete and earth floor to the agreed depth, at the same time excavating for a sump chamber, for the pump. The sump chamber was installed and a new reinforced concrete slab was laid. Following this the high density Polyethylene, studded Delta membranes were installed, using their special water proof fixings. The larger studded floor membrane was then laid across the floor, carefully connecting to the wall membrane, prior to laying a new concrete floor screed. A galvanized dry-lining frame was installed, which was then plaster boarded prior to plastering to a smooth finish. The new staircase was installed and following the second fixings of the electrical system, the room was ready for decorating and for our client and her family to enjoy.
