Another Basement Damp Proofing Disaster in London

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Recently Tapco HomeDry were instructed to carry out an urgent survey on a flooded basement in Knightsbridge, SW London. We were advised by our client that the affected rooms had previously been damp proofed by a builder who used a ‘Cavity Drain Membrane System) however, no guarantee was issued to cover the work. Our qualified damp surveyor who inspected the property found that there was approximately 50cm of water across the floor and no sump or pump had been installed to discharge water away from the property. When exposing areas of the membrane it was found that the floor wall joints hadn’t been properly sealed and were leaking. In fact, any effort that was made to damp proof the rooms were a disaster and a complete waste of money.
A thorough survey was carried out by our surveyor who produced a very thorough report with images and a floor plan together with our recommendations and prices to remove all of the existing materials and install a complete new system professionally, under an insurance backed 20-year guarantee.

Following our client’s instructions to carry out the work our operatives started to remove the existing materials and floors only to discover yet another disaster. It transpired that the drainage system which runs directly under the floor had been broken and instead of replacing the pipe, it had been covered by a plastic bag and was discharging sewage under the floor. It was left to Tapco HomeDry to structurally resin line the drain run and replace the damaged section of pipe, prior to installing our Cavity Drain floor membrane and relaying a new concrete floor.

The work has progressed well and as it nears completion we have a very happy client who is confident that we have solved the problem with damp and flooding once and for all. In addition to this Tapco HomeDry were able to advise and assist him, in claiming for the cost of some of the repairs on his home insurance.
