Dry Rot treatment in Kensington W14 a disaster

Tapco HomeDry are just completing what turned out to be a very big Dry Rot restoration job for us and a huge disaster for our clients, who recently bought a house in Kensington, London W14. Having been supposedly renovated, prior to them purchasing the property, they were completely unaware of what had been covered and hidden until after they moved in. The first they knew of a problem was when they realised there was some movement to the timber floor in their living room and they called us in to carry out a survey. To their horror, when we lifted floorboards, it was immediately identified that a virulent attack dry rot fungus was attacking the sub-floor timbers. More surprisingly some new joists had been laid against the rotting timbers indicating that someone knew there was a serious problem and attempted to hide it.

Immediately following our survey our report was issued and we were instructed to fully expose the attack and carry out dry rot treatment and restoration work to the living room. Unfortunately whilst fully exposing other areas it immediately become evident that the attack was not confined to the one room but had spread not only to two other ground floor rooms and kitchen but also to two of the first floor bedrooms and areas of the lower roof timbers. It also became apparent that a lot of poor attempts to support rotting timbers had been carried out in a completely unprofessional way.

The contract, instead of taking 8 days took Tapco HomeDry 13 weeks to complete at a cost to our clients of £75000. It goes without saying that every step of the work was photographed and documented and our client is now in the process of suing the ‘builder’.

Why would you have specialist work carried out by someone who isn’t a specialist?
