IDENTIFYING DAMP
We were contacted by one of our corporate clients who invited us to quote for considerable damp proofing and structural waterproofing that was required on a property in St Pauls Churchyard, Ludgate Hill, that was undergoing considerable alterations and restoration to convert in into a new, exiting restaurant, The Happenstance. Arrangements were made for one of our qualified damp and timber surveyors to meet our clients their, to discuss their needs and survey the areas to be damp proofed. Moisture readings were taken to confirm the wall to be structurally waterproofed and or report and specifications were submitted for their approval.
ERADICATING DAMP
For this large project and with our clients approval we allowed to structurally water proof the walls and vault ceilings using a cementitious ‘tanking’ system. Areas to be damp proofed were cleared and protected and any wall plaster was removed to expose the brickwork. This was then thoroughly sand blasted to clean and prepare the walls for damp proofing. A scratch coat of waterproof rendering was applied to all areas and allowed to cure. Two slurry coats of our cementitious structural water proofing system were then allied, followed by a second waterproof render coat which was troweled to a smooth finish. A finish plaster coat was then applied, ready for our clients to decorate. As with all of these projects we were on a tight time scale which to the satisfaction of our client, we met and a new London restaurant was born.
