IDENTIFYING DAMP & WOOD ROT
We were asked by our regular clients at The Royal Borough of Kingston to carry out an inspection on the beautiful old town hall in the Market Place, Kingston-upon-Thames. We were informed that the building had an ongoing damp problem to some of the walls and there was evidence of wood rot to some of the floors. One of our qualified damp and timber surveys attended the property to inspect the problems and advise what remedial work was required. Moisture readings were taken to the walls using a calibrated damp meter which recorded high levels of moisture, confirming that there was rising damp. Floorboards were lifted to inspect the sub-floor timbers, which were affected by wet rot fungus and woodworm. A detailed report on the defects was forwarded to our clients.
ERADICATING DAMP & WOOD ROT
Our acceptance of our recommendations, our fully trained and experience operative commenced the remedial work by removing the defective wall plaster to a height of 1.2 metres and removing all of the decayed timber floors and removing all rubble to a designated place for disposal. The walls were were then pattern drilled in a chosen mortar joint, cleared of dust and injected with a Silane/Siloxane cream damp proof course solution. The flooring timbers were then replaced as necessary, using new treated timber, protected by a damp proof membrane. The walls were then prepared and re-plastered in accordance with our damp proofing specification to complete our system. New skirting boards were the fitted and primed for our clients own contractor to decorate.
