IDENTIFYING DAMP

Damp in a property is a problem wherever it is but if it’s in a World famous fashion store, such as Burberry it i.e. even more a problem because damp and clothes are not a good combination. We were instructed by our clients to undertake a damp survey to a part of the store, paying particular attention to the staircase adjoining wall, leading into the basement. Our Property Care Association (PCA) qualified damp and timber surveyor attended the property and inspected the damage, measuring the moisture within the walls, using a hand held Protimeter SurveyMaster, in measure mode. The property was then thoroughly inspected both internally and externally which revealed that the damp walls were below ground and affected by lateral damp penetration. This was being forced through the walls, under hydrostatic pressure To prevent this, structural waterproofing was recommended in accordance with our specification. Following the survey, our detailed report, with images and a floor plan were presented to our clients and the remedial work was scheduled to commence.

ERADICATING DAMP

Before commenting the work, considerable protection measures were carried out to protect the store and their staff and clients. All of the damp wall plaster was removed and taken to a designated place for disposal. The walls were then prepared and plastered with a waterproof scratch coat or rendering which was allowed to cure. The rendering was then coated with two slurry coats of our structural waterproofing system, at the approved rates, prior to applying a second coat or rendering and the plaster finish coat. When dry, the walls were decorated by our clients own contractor.
